 Wow, I cannot believe that is it November already! Time flies when you are having fun, right?


Here is what room 2 has been digging into so far this week. 

Language Arts: We have been focusing our writing and learning around remembrance day. Today we started a flip book where we are tightening our sentence structures while discussing this very important day. Our new words of the week is up and you can check them out below. Students will have a spelling test on November 13th. I have been very pleased with the progress being made with their spelling! Literacy centers have been going so well. Students are learning comprehension strategies and building vocabulary while listening to and connecting to our class novel "Forth Grade Rats".















Mathematics: The grade 3s and 4s have been really showing me their knowledge of numbers and place value. We are able to represent numbers in standard and expanded forms. Word forms are coming along, and today we practiced showing a number using symbols. A fun game you can play at home to help strengthen this learning is "Place Value War". Ask you child how you play this game!

Friday, students will be showing me what they have learned by a number representation challenge! More to come to show their progress! 

Science: This week in science the focus has been on testing different types of beams! Ask you child about the types of beams we tested and which held the most weight. :)

Thank you to those who have touched base with me for parent teacher conferences. Happy Spring Break! Wishing everyone a restful break and we will see your kiddos on Tuesday April 6th!  A quick reminder for our social studies project. We are asking for students to think of and bring in artifacts that are meaningful to them, that connects them with nature and the land. With these artifacts they will be telling their story and how they connect to the land. These artifacts ca be nature items, such as, sticks, rocks, grass etc. They can also be photographs or trinkets! Thank you for your participation with this project.  Here is what we have been learning this week in room 2. Language Arts : Students learned about limerick poems. A limerick poem involves humour, rhyme and rhythm. Students did a great job at following the rhyming pattern and created some very silly and fun poems. Below you will find the words of the week. Monday November 16th!

Quick reminders- Hot soup is tomorrow and Thursday. Students will not have school on Friday due to conferences. Don't forget to book a phone call with me :)  Language Arts - Room two has started reading a new book! We have been listening and reading The One and Only Ivan. Ask you child about what has happened in the book so far. For writing in the upcoming weeks we are beginning to learn the components of instructional writing (i.e. transitional words, lists, and where to place commas etc). Our new words of the week are out, and check your child back pack for their list for them to practice when at home. Students will be tested on their spelling NEXT Friday November 27th.  Mathematics - I have been super impressed with the grade 3/4s learning of comparing numbers. Today they became "outback detectives" and are solving another mystery for who stole all the opal gemstones in Australia!
