Weekly Wrap Up!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great spring break. 

Here is what we have been learning this week. 


Language Arts: Students this week worked on writing by writing a report on a classmates spring break. We also made connections between literacy and symbols. Students were to draw an artifact that represented family, where they were born or a piece of nature that they connected to. With those drawn artifacts, students will be representing what they drew into a poem. This poem will be tell their personal story of how they connect to our land. We have a few more chapters of Wonder left! Stay tuned for a wrap up project that summarizes the book. 

Mathematics: We are continuing with measurement with a little bit of geometry! The grade 3's are learning how to measure the perimeter of a shape or space, and the grade 4's are learning how to measure the area of shape and space. Ask you child what the formula or equation is to find the perimeter or area! 

Science: Today in science, room 2 started to make a pulley! The materials we used were, screwers, bottle caps and card stock! Next week we are going to test them to see how much they can lift! 

Social Studies: Room 2 continued to learn more about India's culture- customs and traditions. Students were about to make connections and similarities to their personal lives. If they believed in the same religion, speaking the same language, or how instruments are similar to others).

Reminders: Please see an important message regarding a survey for the possibility for "Shortened Fridays". Links from the letter are available for you on the side bar (click on the three lines in the top left hand corner).  We would like to hear your voice!  March 17th is "wear green" day! Tomorrow is Hot Soup day and Friday is a PD day. There is no school for your child on Friday. Enjoy a long weekend.  Language Arts: This week, room 2 has been learning about a formula type of poem called a Haiku. Ask your child about Haikus! What is it a formula poem? What is the structure of a Haiku? Here are our words of the week! We will be having our spelling test next Friday (March 19th).  Mathematics:  Room 2 have been become Math Detectives! Gnomes have taking extra portions from the villages stock pile. It's up to us to solve which gnome has been taking the food. Students need to crack the code by interpreting graphs and data.  Science: Students have finished making

Hard to believe that October is almost over! Tomorrow is favourite shirt day and Hot Soup! Can't wait to see everyone in their favourite shirts.  WE HAVE BEEN SO BUSY!  Language Arts: Reminder that we have our spelling test tomorrow!  Mathematics: Students created some really awesome creations out of base 10 blocks and used their number sense to the test to find out what the total value of their creations were! We then have been working on the difference between numbers in standard formation and in expanded form. Ask you child to write this number in EXPANDED form using place value.  12 359    OR    5831                                                            Science:  Day two of being engineers and room 2 created two types of beams and out them to the test. Students tested the weight of square beams and triangular beams. Ask you child which beam is the strongest!? Wednesday Sept. 16th

 Today the grade 3/4s were introduced into parts of speech and reviews nouns. In math, it was our first try at "Word Problem Wednesday" and most of us were successful at using the CUBES strategy to solve their problems. Ask you child what landforms and vegetation the grasslands region of Alberta! A letter was sent home today about parent/teacher conferences.
