Monday November 30th

 Wow! How is tomorrow December tomorrow?? December calendars went home today! Have a look to see what events are happening this month.  Next week, we are starting to build our structures. Here are some ideas for recycled items that we have asked for your child to bring for this project: cardboard, plastic, egg cartons, paper towel rolls, dixie cups, straws etc. I will send out an email to parents for a reminder. Language Arts: Here are are new spelling words! Please practice at home. We will be having a quiz on these words on Dec 17th. A little extra time for students to practice.  Math:  Starting tomorrow we will be working on adding and subtracting and efficient problem solving strategies.   Science: Our bridges are complete! Look at how great they are!!!...Students did an amazing job constructing different types of truss bridges. Tomorrow we conduct our experiment to see if all truss bridges can hold the same weight.

Heads up for next week: Thanks to those who participated in Hat day today. It was great to see such fun hats in the classroom. Look out for the December Calendar coming home next week. Also, on Friday December 4th there is no school for students- it is a PD day.  Language Arts: Today we had our spelling. Can't wait to have a look at the progress. Next week will be a new set of words.  Math: Today students showed me what they knew about comparing numbers. Monday we are moving on to something new in our learning.  Visual Art: We started a new unit on landscapes today! Students are going to creating a "Line Landscape" or "Doddle Landscape". Today we learned about the t hree parts that a landscape should have.  Ask your child what is foreground, middle ground and background is?  Science: Our bridges are almost complete!  Happy Wednesday!  Event coming up this week. On Friday, it is hat day here at Vista Heights. Students are invited to wear their favourite hat!  Also on Friday is room 2's spelling test. I hope you have been practicing. On this day students will also be showing me what they know with comparing numbers.  Language Arts: Students have started to learn instructional writing MUST HAVES. We have focused in on transitional words and phrases that connect steps and ideas for an enjoyable read and flow. Keep and eye out for a big writing project coming your child's way.  Mathematics: We have been practice comparing numbers to prep for our "Show what you know" on Friday. Thank you for those who have booked a conference time with me. I really enjoy connecting with you.  Reminder that there is no school for your child tomorrow, due to parent teacher conferences. Have a fantastic weekend. Here is a weekly wrap up on our learning! Language Arts: Here is some vocabulary and expressions we have learned this week from reading "The One and Only Ivan": amends, domain, intertwined, tactful, and patience. As a class, we have been focusing on what "the benefit of the doubt" means and how we can show that on a daily basis.  Mathematics: Today was the last day for the Outback Outlaw math detective. Ask your child who stole all the opal gemstones. We are wrapping up comparing numbers next week and then we are moving on to addition and subtraction!  Science: We tested the strength of connections this week. Quick reminders- Hot soup is tomorrow and Thursday. Students will not have school on Friday due to conferences. Don't forget to book a phone call with me :)  Language Arts - Room two has started reading a new book! We have been listening and reading The One and Only Ivan. Ask you child about what has happened in the book so far. For writing in the upcoming weeks we are beginning to learn the components of instructional writing (i.e. transitional words, lists, and where to place commas etc). Our new words of the week are out, and check your child back pack for their list for them to practice when at home. Students will be tested on their spelling NEXT Friday November 27th.  Mathematics - I have been super impressed with the grade 3/4s learning of comparing numbers. Today they became "outback detectives" and are solving another mystery for who stole all the opal gemstones in Australia! Quick Reminders!

 Hi everyone,  Just some quick updates before we begin the week!  Wednesday is Remembrance Day and there will be no school on the 11th. Picture retake day is on Tuesday the 10th and this will also be for students who were away on the day we had pictures taken. Friday November 13th, room 2 will be completing their spelling tests! Be sure to practice these words.  Snacks and lunches: Hot Soup lunch is on Tuesday and Thursday! Since our lunch time has changed, there will be a short additional nutrition break given to your child in the afternoon. Please pack your child an extra snack if possible. Also, a gentle reminder to be packing healthy snacks and lunches. :)  Hope you all had a warm and restful weekend!

 Wow, I cannot believe that is it November already! Time flies when you are having fun, right? Here is what room 2 has been digging into so far this week.  Language Arts: We have been focusing our writing and learning around remembrance day. Today we started a flip book where we are tightening our sentence structures while discussing this very important day. Our new words of the week is up and you can check them out below. Students will have a spelling test on November 13th. I have been very pleased with the progress being made with their spelling! Literacy centers have been going so well. Students are learning comprehension strategies and building vocabulary while listening to and connecting to our class novel "Forth Grade Rats". Mathematics: The grade 3s and 4s have been really showing me their knowledge of numbers and place value. We are able to represent numbers in standard and expanded forms. Word forms are coming along, and today we practiced showing a number using sy
